April 1, 2006: ActiveWin.com has posted 6 exclusive screenshots of an early Alpha version of Windows IE 8.0, codename "Teahupoo". The next Internet Explorer 8, due to be released at the time of Vista R2, will build off what was not included in IE 7 for various reasons. For those of you who are familiar with the IE team naming strategy, the codename "Teahupoo" is a famous surfing beach in Tahiti. Rincon, the codename of IE 7, was a famous surfing beach in Puerto Rico. In the screenshots, you see the new features...too good to be described here. You have to see for yourself. Check them out! That UI apparently requires DirectX 10 hardware.

I heard that Teahupoo supports in-browser NNTP, and the hyper-cool gopher protocol. Any truth to these rumors?

I'd say those screenshots are an improvement over IE7.
