Lawyer sues Microsoft over Surface tablet storage | |

A California lawyer is suing Microsoft, claiming the Surface tablet he bought doesn't have all the storage space the company advertised. Andrew Sokolowski, a lawyer in Los Angeles, claims that he bought a Surface with 32 gigabytes of storage last week. But he quickly ran out of space after loading it with music and Microsoft Word documents. He discovered that a significant portion of the 32 GB storage space was being used by the operating system and pre-installed apps such as Word and Excel. Only 16 GB was available for him to use. | ||

Part of me agrees with this suit not just against Microsoft but devices in general; my 32 gig iPad has only 29 gig of usable storage. It's not as bad as the surface but it's certainly the same issue. If companies are going to advertise storage as a feature, then the storage estimates better be accurate and exclude disk space taken up by the OS and other software as well as UOM discrepancies.
Another part of me asks, how could this guy not have known this? These storage specs are all over the internet. How about doing a little research before making a big purchase. And finally, the pessimist in me sees an opportunistic lawyer who was fully aware of the disk space discrepancy and planned this from the get go. My recommended solution to this lawyer is – return the damn thing if you don’t like it and stick the legal nonsense up your ars. It’s what the rest of the planet does. |

| After he loses this case, he should be made to pay Microsoft's legal fees. |
