Microsoft's ARM blunder: 7 reasons why Windows RT was DOA
Time: 04:52 EST/09:52 GMT | News Source: The Register | Posted By: Byron Hinson

Industry doomsayers were circling Windows 8 like buzzards before it even launched, but they picked the wrong carcass. Microsoft's real 2012 roadkill was Win8's ARM-powered cousin, Windows RT. The chattering class's comparisons of Windows 8 and Windows Vista are premature it will take several more quarters before we can gauge how Redmond's latest OS will play out in the marketplace. But with the holiday season behind us, it's now plain that Window RT is a flop.

Well written and lucid. At the high starting price of $599 with keyboard cover, RT makes little sense in either the consumer or business space with the artificial limitations that MS built into it, such as not allowing desktop applications to be properly installed, No Outlook, etc. If MS wants it to really sell well they need to turn it into a full Windows 8 on ARM.

It looks like Steve Ballmer keeps approving these projects blindly. Maybe he's surrounded himself with yes men.

I don't even have to read the article. Price is the main problem. It should have been $299 to start, $349 with touch cover. Although Surface pro is getting good reviews, it too is way over priced and there should be an option for a 240 gig hard drive.

Haven't seen a review of the Pro yet myself - got to remember the surface rt got good write ups in previews - not so good in reviews and getting worse now due to the lack of a price drop.
