Microsoft's 'Blue' wave is coming to more than just Windows
Time: 12:58 EST/17:58 GMT | News Source: | Posted By: Byron Hinson

As we've known for a few months, the Windows client team at Microsoft is working on its first "feature-pack" update for Windows 8, supposedly due this summer/fall, which is codenamed "Blue." But it turns out Blue isn't a Windows thing only, according to one very accurate tipster of mine who doesn't want to be identified. Blue also is the way Microsoft is referring to the next substantial platform update for Windows Phone, the Windows Services (like SkyDrive, Hotmail, etc.), and Windows Server, according to my source. In other words, Blue is a wave of product refreshes which are not expected to arrive exactly all on the same day, but which are meant to be released more or less around the same time.

If "Blue" is only going to be available as a download from the Microsoft Store than we may have to start paying for what historically was a service pack. I dislike Ballmer's psychopathic (it's your fault that I was wrong) management style.

For Microsoft's sake "Blue" better make Windows 8 desktop more user friendly.

#1 you completely misunderstand "Blue" and Service Packs. The former is rumoured to be a new platform upgrade with actual major new features and major. Service Packs are little more than a roll up of hotfixes, with any new features, of which are minor changes, kept to a minimum.

You won't be paying for Service Packs. You "might" be paying for a platform upgrade.

#3: Tell me how "platform upgrades" (cost) are different from service packs (free) again, if there will be no Windows 8 service packs?
XP SP3 contained major platform upgrades. Service packs are more than a pack of updates rolled up.
