Mike Swanson has created a Windows Vista Sidebar gadget that enables owners of networked TiVos to view each device's Now Playing List and (with v1.0.2 of the gadget) download recorded shows to their PCs.

Gee, TiVo has its own applet to do the same thing, and it's free as well. To to TiVo's home page and look for "TiVoToGo."

Indeed, TiVo does have their free TiVo Desktop software. I run it myself, and it's fantastic. Problem is, it isn't parked on the side of my screen where I can easily see what's been recorded. That's why I wrote the gadget. Also, TiVoToGo has been replaced by TiVo Desktop Plus, and it costs $24.95 (I know, because I bought it). :-)

This is just another option, frankly. It's not meant to replace TiVo's software.
