It can be argued that Microsoft's main focus with Windows Vista was security. While sceptics try to claim that there has not been much improvement, Vista does appear to be Microsoft's most secure OS to date.
Nevertheless, it's far from perfect, and not only on the security front. While many tests show that Vista outperforms XP on some high-end computers, the average computer system does not run Windows Vista as well as it does Windows XP. This will of course change as the average computer becomes more powerful and as Microsoft tweaks the operating system (SP1 already offers some help), but the fact of the matter is that Vista is recognized as a slow operating system.

More secure than Windows 2008?

I am a Bill G fan but sometimes I wish that MS would just STFU.
"Do, No talk" should be their new slogan
wasn't Vista suppose to be the "Fresh new OS that would usher us into a new era"? instead we are left to talk about VaporWare

They needed us to buy Vista to pay for the Windows 7 development. Given the prices of Vista, I think we paid for the next 3 versions all at once.

"More secure than Windows 2008?"
I think they were referring to windows "client" OS's. Besides that Vista and 2008 run on the same kernel.

#4: Given that this is Microsoft's "bread and butter" I hardly think their ongoing OS development is contingent upon you buying Vista.

Same old bad habit of reading between the lines and creating a mountain of a molehill. Seriously, Bill Gates does not mean every word he says and he may even forget what he said "just casually". That apart, if such articles build up pressure on Microsoft to create a lean mean performant OS, then I'm all for it.

Gates words paraphrase the text that appears during the installation of every past version of Windows. Better, faster, more secure, easier to use, etc. Only time will tell what is correct and what is bluster.
