The question of how remote controls may change in our smartphone and tablet era is actually moot. Forget evolving them from a crazy array of buttons to a smart touchscreen UI...the TV remote may be about to achieve its Nirvana, and dissappear into the ether. It's partly because remote control tech is about to be revolutionized, and partly because TV as we know it is about to change radically.

I'd like to see all my components controllable via WiFi. That way all you need is a universal remote app on your ipad, and wow the stuff you could come up with :)

My Yamaha Avenge 3000 Receiver already has this, but it's only for the receiver, and it's not "programmable". You can operate the amp, but not make your own custom screens.

Logitech's Control Code library has become so polluted with inoperable bullshit that I don't even want to see another one. I have two, and neither will program correctly because the online codes are so hosed up.

Still waiting for Bing search on the XBOX to work as advertised. Most of the time it just does nothing. The search bar comes up but doesn't seem to search.
