The PC world is stumbling, and if it falls it’s going to bring Microsoft tumbling down with it. But there’s a solution: it’s time for Microsoft to start making PCs.
The tech world is moving towards tablets and apps, and that could cause trouble for Microsoft in the long run. At the moment, more than nine in ten computers run Windows, but sales of PCs are essentially flat, while sales of smartphones, tablets and Macs are skyrocketing, posting growth well above traditional PCs for 22 consecutive quarters.

"while sales of smartphones, tablets and Macs are skyrocketing, posting growth well above traditional PCs for 22 consecutive quarters."
Bundling MACs, smartphones and tablets in the same statement is very deceptive.
This makes it sound like MACS are outperforming PCs - Yes MAC sales have gotten better than they use to be but % of market is still very small.
Moreover, using growth as a comparison is deceptive. Most people have a PC since they've really affordable for over a decade. No one had a tablet 3 years ago, so of course the growth in that area is going to be off the charts.

If Microsoft sells a computer, it will be discontinued and support will falter within a year.
Microsoft doesn't have the heart to "stick with it" when it comes to hardware. They have proven it time and time and time again. MS hardware is abandonware, eventually.
About the only exception (so far) is Mice and Keyboards.
