Detwiler Fenton, a Boston-based wealth management firm, said yesterday in an analysis that Microsoft may sell 500,000 to 600,000 Surfaces by Christmas, far below its previous expectation of one to two million.
The report described a lack of distribution as "killing the product" in the US market.
“Mixed reviews and a [$499 or £399] starting price tag certainly don’t help, but lack of retail exposure at Best Buy [an American appliance store] and others is severely depressing sales,” the report said.

If it's a outside entity doing the analysis, how is it an excuse? If Microsoft issued that statement then it could be considered an excuse.

The Launch that failed to Surface...
lol
Walmart and Best Buy isn't moving this product. Microsoft had to know that was going to hurt sales.

This is the same problem that MSFT had back in the day when they fielded the first touch screen convertible laptops.
Then, the retail distributors wouldn't carry them and now, ditto . . .
In fact, it is difficult to find so-called ultra book laptops with SSDs at retailers.
MSFT needs to open more stores a la APPL.
