ActiveWin: How to Optimise Windows XP Home and Pro Part 2
Time: 05:03 EST/10:03 GMT | News Source: ActiveWin.com | Posted By: Alex Harris

After the amazing popularity of the first How to published on optimising Windows XP Home and Pro, I decided to do a part 2 with even more tweaks to try and get your copy of XP running as sweetly as possible. If you enjoyed the Part 1 that was released a couple of days ago here, then this should give you more of the same.

Error reporting: I always keep this turned on, my friend at Microsoft says that the information they get from these error dumps is quite useful. I want to help continue to improve software for everybody.

Syskey: This would be useful if it could read the login key off say, a Sony Memory Stick. I'd like to be able to log in to Windows without a password, similar to the way I turn on a car with car keys.

I use a fingerprint scanner from www.digitalpersona.com to log into windows. They're selling now for around $80. I also use it to store passwords I use on the web and for Quicken. Just touch my finger to the pad and it fills in the forms. :-) (yea, I'm lazy that way) I'd say it reads my finger on the first touch 99% of the time... been doing it since February or March of this year without any problems.

Error reporting: Absolutely good idea to keep on! I for one want MS to know of every single problem that ever happens with Windows. :D

Fingerprint scanner: Read your print right on the first touch 99% of the time. Well that's cool... But, wonder how often it would read and accept anyone elses wrongly? hehe

So would people be interested in a Part 3? or even a downloadable version with all of them on. I am amazed by the popularity of this! I was thinking that over the weekend I could do a part 3 for it and post it up then. Are people finding this helpful? Useful? Making your system work well?

Please post below.

Perhaps some of us could even write a few VBScripts to help automate some of your tips, so the less experienced users could still apply them without having to go registry diving, etc.

ekapshi - I think you want a smart card reader. :)

I would agree that error reporting is a great thing to keep on. It just will help make Windows a better product over all. Great article otherwise.
