Federal and state regulators have voiced concern that a feature in Windows XP that involves online music purchasing may violate terms of Microsoft's antitrust settlement. The issue surfaced in a court-mandated briefing filed jointly by Microsoft and federal and state regulators. The compliance update says there are ongoing discussions over the "Shop for Music Online" feature in the operating system.

Microsoft should have never put this feature in.

As a consumer I don't want it or need it. If they want to let people shop for music, put links in off their MSN properties and let people download the functionality if they so desire.

But it's not functionality that I expect in an OS, need in an OS, or even want in an OS... that's me speaking as a consumer.

Microsoft is just plain stupid on this issue.
