Microsoft Takes Aim At Intuit Again
Time: 15:44 EST/20:44 GMT | News Source: Internet Week | Posted By: Todd Richardson

Microsoft is hoping Magellan can take it where Microsoft Profit and bCentral Finance Manager could not. The destination? Small business accounting, a market dominated by Intuit's QuickBooks.

After several failed attempts, the software giant will once again make a foray into small business accounting with a project code-named Magellan, sources said. Details are sketchy. A Microsoft spokeswoman confirmed the code name, and said the company continues to investigate the best ways to serve small businesses, but that it is too early to talk product plans.

I hope they can forge some competition in this market. I'm sorry, but Quickbooks is a horrible, bloated, crappy-UI piece of junk. Sure, it has lots of features and such, but it's just a mess to use. I hope someone can force them to clean up that piece of crap and make it actually usable. It's slow as hell too...!!

Finally! I am so tired of Quickbooks dated graphics, lack of interaction with other programs and functionalities. Btw did Intuit added cut, copy and paste in the right click menu of Quickbook 2004? I hate to go to the Edit menu in order to do it.
I also hope that MS will make reminders and other data interact with Outlook so I know what is coming and due without opening two different programs.

What I heard is that this project should be part of "Project Green" .
Prjoect Green is supposed to be a complete overhaul of all the Accounting and financial programs and apps MS have right now; the idea is to have a basic financial suite and from that growing to Small Business, Salomon, Alexas etc.

Yeah, I despise Quickbooks, and I don't even have to work with it. I only have to make it so other people can work with it.
