Editorial: The Advent of Longhorn and OSS Considerations
Time: 08:37 EST/13:37 GMT | News Source: OS News | Posted By: Robert Stein

Longhorn's arrival will indeed be monumental, as their research teams are finally producing something worthwhile. The OSS world has much to do in preparation for this release; this version of Microsoft's OS will not simply offer trivial UI "enhancements" that appeal to users, as it has done in the past - they are really targeting both users and developers very forcefully this time around. I interned there last summer and got to see and use Longhorn, and saw the beta-Longhorn technologies (including the amazing Avalon, as well as a super alpha XAML (pronounced "zamel" implementation). The developers were excited, as they should be.

Why is he telling us he did an internship at Microsoft? I don't need to know that, this was just a chance for him to tell people that he was at Microsoft for the summer. The article is luke warm and doesn't offer anything new, we already know that Avalon, Indigo, WinFS and the rest of the gang are going to be spectacular. I have gotten more information from Paul Thurrott about Longhorn than this guy will ever know, I have seen concepts of what Aero will truly look like, giving us this "show off" attempt at an experience is just plain lousy!

The article is about equivalent or similar tech in the OSS world and how the OSS world will have to cope with interacting with these new Microsoft technology.

It's not about trying to tell you more about Longhorn than what has been told before. The article is called "The Advent of Longhorn and OSS Considerations" not "More Info About Longhorn Than You've Ever Read Anywhere Else Before."
