  Visual FoxPro 9.0 Beta
Time: 03:12 EST/08:12 GMT | News Source: ActiveWin.com | Posted By: Robert Stein

Download for Microsoft Visual FoxPro 9.0 beta. The expiration date for Visual FoxPro 9.0 beta is March 31, 2005. Because this is a pre-release build of Visual FoxPro (VFP) 9.0, the quality of it will not be of the same caliber as that of the final release. It has not been tested as fully as a final release so there may be product issues not yet identified by the product team. While the Visual FoxPro team has a high degree of comfort with this release, please use the beta with caution and never use it with production data or applications. This public beta is only supported on Microsoft Windows 2000 with Service Pack 2 or later operating systems. For more information about features contained in the Visual FoxPro 9.0 beta before downloading it, refer to the June 2004 letter at http://msdn.com/vfoxpro/letters.

I still do not understand how Visual Fox Pro has evolved into its current position. Years ago it was Microsoft's primary Database Management System, then it became a database programming tool bundled with Visual Studio.

So, is it still popular?

I've never used it, but then I don't even really know what it does.

#2, this is Microsofts version of Visual Basic dedicated specifically to building databases.

#3, really funny, I personally thought it was shot!

Hey Guys,

I would recommend giving it a try. I believe the main reason MS doesn't promote it more is because they don't make enough money on licensing it like they do with SQL Server. But if you need to make soley database applications and you are familar with VB syntax, and you don't require databases larger than 2GB, then this is a very powerful product for an awesome price. It's also easy to switch over to SQL databases if you require a backend solution.

Just my 2 cents.

I remember those Visual Fox Pro MVPs in Seattle ;-)....

Well I guess I should know what it is then. I've already done the Wrox book on Basic VB programing, moving onto one other and then I was going to try the Basic Database programming in VB.

The reason why Microsoft does not give it much publicity as the other Microsoft languages is because those same FoxPro MVP's and loyal FoxPro customers do not want to migrate to the .NET FrameWork platform, which is an issue for FoxPro users who already are comfy and do not want to relearn a new platform or language techniques.

Remember, Microsoft included it up to version 6 of Visual Studio. I personally believe it is dang difficult!

#5, Maybe Yukon will do the push for FoxPro users to embrace .NET since you say SQL is closely tied to it.
