Vanguard - Saga of Heroes Screenshots
Time: 00:00 EST/05:00 GMT | News Source: ActiveWin.com | Posted By: Robert Stein

Imagine a vast, detailed world of swords and sorcery, of dragons and knights, of fiery swords and chests overflowing with treasure… a world in which a myriad of sentient races and creatures, many of whom players will be able to base a character on, live and affect change. A place where players can follow very different paths of advancement, including assuming the roles of adventurers, crafters and merchants.

Vanguard does look like an beautiful game visually. I do hope that the gameplay is done as well as the art, and that Microsoft doesnt cancel this RPG before it's even finished.

Could they have made the screenshots any darker? I could hardly make out the first two...the third was barely discernable.

What's going to set this game apart from the other 50,000,000 MMORPGs?

#1 with current xbox figures as they are, that may just be done. I prefer diablo II.

I like it too it really has a detail concept that is both visually fullfilling and just plain fun to play.

Is this the same game as the one from years ago - I think it was on Atari or Commodore or something - I think you flew a spaceship around or something - I can't remember (that was many many bong loads ago...)

Maybe if I went to the ActiveMac section and bashed the hell out of the Mac I could get 300 posts or so... I have a great story to tell about a Mac experience anyways... (I could tell it one post per line...)

I dislike the trend of all of these RPGs being based on medieval scenarios that borrow heavily from the D&D world and rules. Phantasy Star, Final Fantasy, Dragon Warrior, Breath of Fire, Xenosaga, have all managed to break away from traditional formulas and actually create their own unique worlds and standards.

The D&D-style RPGs are unimaginative, you can only take so much of the same thing. Vanguard only seems to entrench itself further into this ideal.

I'm impressed at PSO and FFXI for really pulling it off on the console and PC. It's disappointing that these haven't had an effect on upcoming PC MMORPGs such as this one. To have to pay monthly for a video game, it will have to keep the interest of gamers. How can you do that when you provide the same scenario with only basic plot changes? You can only offer the same experience so many ways.

It's time to re-think the worlds... perhaps pull in some famous sci-fi/fiction authors like some other game genres are doing recently. There is also an upcoming game based on the ideas of the author of Ender's Game, Orson Scott Card.

I think thats the profitable trend these days #9, look at movies such as Troy and upcoming Alexander. Its just a big chance to make money.
