Microsoft Works 8.0 is now available. Microsoft Works Suite 2005 coming soon. Life seems to get busier every day, especially for active families. Microsoft Works 8 has all the essential tools you need to keep up with those everyday tasks, like staying connected with family and friends, getting family schedules in sync, tracking the family budget, or organizing that home improvement project.

For a lot of families and more casual users, Works Suite is great and comes with Word - which BTW, qualifies the product for an Office upgrade. I think Suite DVD is about one of the best buys on the market. The version included with many OEM systems is not the suite version, and does not include MS Word 2003. I suspect this is why many skip Works and move to Office. That said, for familes, Works Suite is a great set of well integrated applications and a great starter suite.

The Student & Teachers (Academic) version of Office is very cheap. If one qualifies, I would think it quite a bargain, even if one already had Works.

Streets and Trips is a very good map program that comes with Works. It only got me lost a couple of times, much better than I would do with an Atlas, since I was born with the male "we'll get there somehow "gene. Printed turn by turn directions are great. For those of you that are about to suggest an online map, Streets and Trips is faster, naturally being local, and superior to them all in capabilities.
