ActiveWin.com: Call for Questions - Bill Gates
Time: 16:39 EST/21:39 GMT | News Source: ActiveWin.com | Posted By: Robert Stein

ActiveWin.com is attempting to interview Microsoft's founder, Chairman and Chief Software Architect Bill Gates. We have been compiling questions of our own but we are now opening up our comment boards for your questions. We will pick a number of your questions to include in our submission. In the past, questions from our audience have been asked to CEO Steve Ballmer and Group VP Jim Allchin during our interviews. Take this opportunity to propose a well-formed question, and if things fall into place yours might make the final cut.

#8 In past interviews he has denied ever saying that. Given the lack of any actual proof and a lot of hearsay, it's relatively safe to assume that he never said it. The best reply I've heard about this was that Bill Gates did say "640K should be enough for anyone", but he was speaking about employee stock options at the time =)

For starters Billy G should be thanked for driving down the cost of software when Office was introduced at the same price as Word Perfect was in the late 1980's. Now, how about lowering the price of Windows to your white box OEM's? We pay $88 per copy, while Dell pays half as much as we do. Volume is no excuse for making us pay double. Auto companies don't charge half as much to Hertz as they do to the general public for a new car. They get a volume discount. We get gouged at a 90 to 95% margin.
