Goodbye, Bill G. Hello, Don G.
Today the Washington Post Co. announces that it is buying Slate from Microsoft Corporation, our home since we began publishing in 1996. When the transaction closes in mid-January, we will leave the splendiferous House of Gates for the munificent House of Graham.

Wow. Mod that one to 'insightful' immediately please.
And no, I have no comment on the article. But I've since learned at ActiveWin that it doesn't seem to matter.

Halcyon - do I need to read Slate for you, like I read the Sun/Linus article? Do your own research.
BTW, ActiveWin staff... if I've learned one thing today... its that I'm not at all interested in a smart-spin carousel. That audio ad was 45 seconds of crap. C'mon. Put up a donate link or something.

#5 both publications are strong supporters of the Democrats. Objective journalism went out the door at the WP years ago and never existed at Slate.

Slate and WP make a good pair - destined for obivilion as more and more readership is turned off with their blatant liberal partisanship.
". . . now at 709,500 daily copies, down 10 percent over the past two years . . ."

mooresa56, happyguy, jdhawk - There is a word for this type of argument back home in the heartland.
We call it Whining.
I'd love to hear what you consider an example of a good paper.
Sadly, Pravda during the Soviet era was more truthful than most conservative news outlets these days.

Soda, no one is whinning. I called a spade a spade.
When I called both Slate and WP overwhelmingly liberal partisans, I was just stating a fact. For example, here is a list of the top "brass" at Slate and how they stated they would vote in the last presidential election:
The October 26 Slate posting listed these staffers as among those planning to cast their ballot for John Kerry, selected names in alphabetical order:
- Phillip Carter, military and legal affairs writer
- Bryan Curtis, Deputy Culture Editor
- Mickey Kaus, contributor
- Josh Levin, Assistant Editor
- Scott Moore, General Manager of the MSN News and Information Division
- Timothy Noah, Senior Writer [In the 1980s Noah reported for the Wall Street Journal, Newsweek and U.S. News]
- Meghan O'Rourke, Culture Editor
- Jill Hunter Pellettieri, Assistant Editor
- David Plotz, Deputy Editor
- William Saletan, Chief Political Correspondent
- Chris Suellentrop, Deputy Washington Bureau Chief
- June Thomas, West Coast Editor
- Julia Turner, Assistant Editor
- Jacob Weisberg, Editor
Then, I pointed out another fact. That is, that WP and also, every other overwhelmingly liberal partisan media outlet has been losing market share.
And, by the way, I say keep it up. Republicans have won 7 out of the last 9 presidential elections. Republicans have the majority in the House and Senate and have continued to gain share for the last dozen years or so. It is media outlets like Slate and WP that have helped make it so. It is my hope that WP can continue to merge with the likes of Slate - hey, how about moveon.org and WP? lol

soda - I wouldn't say anyone here was whining about it. It's a fact plain and simple. we and the rest of the public have found ways of dealing with the liberal slant in todays news reports, we find a more balanced source of information.
Pravda would be a fairly good example of many of todays liberal news outlets. What with the made up stories (Jayson Blair - NYT), fake documents (Dan Rather - CBS) and preferential treatment of Democrats (ABC memo), it's a small wonder than many people are leaving the 'old standards' of news reporting for new sources.
jdhawk - I think that Wp would be better served by merging with DU or DailyKos first.

I don't believe there are ANY fair and balanced media outlets out there at all. Especially Fox News and Slate.
Fox News = Pro-Imperialistic War Mongering Flip Flopping Never Wrong Bush
Slate = Looney Leftie voting for ANYONE but the Wrong Right with a side of Bushisms.
However, I do like the Bushisms....even though it's embarassing that I have such a dumb @ss president, those are funny as can be. And what makes them funny is that they are true quotes. :(

AWBrian, I love it when liberals call conservatives dumb and stupid. At the rate that the "dumb a**es" are gaining political office at the local, state and national level, the liberals will some day wake up and learn that they no longer have a party. Impugn away, baby! lol

sodablue - "I'd love to hear what you consider an example of a good paper. "
I never said slate was bad... I just acknowledge it for what it is... unbalanced liberal media. And I say again, as #11 articulated... that slate (and others like it) have helped make things the way they are today... with the Republicans DOMINATING the elections and leaving the Democrats to scratch (Gov/Washington) for any victory.
