Time: 00:05 EST/05:05 GMT | News Source: ActiveWin.com | Posted By: Robert Stein

Chris has posted his preview of Microsoft Windows XP Professional 64-bit Edition RC 2. Here is an excerpt:

I am waiting until dual-core CPUs become available. Then I will upgrade everything at once including XP.

fast_math: You say that everyday....

Do you keep switching back to Windows, or what? Maybe you should keep your copy.

actually windows is better but that damn product activation really sucks.
I didnt used to hate india or microsoft. now I do both.

When someone buy windows they should be able to install it, without having to call
some damn foreign country, and be questioned to death, ie. is it oem or retail?
its bullshit.
So I'm "forced" to take the crappy o/s!

I used Linux for a few weeks after selling my PC while I was waiting for my Mac to arrive : )
The temporary computer wasn't really capable of running XP and 98 was out of the question.
Since living in OS X now for the past 5.5 months, I can honestly say there have been more free time opportunities : )

The 64 bit OS itself works as expected with a slighly faster boot up even when installed on a Seagate ATA-100, compared to booting 32-bit XP Pro on a Seagate SATA-150 drive. However, I can't find x64 drivers for my HP scanjet 3670 and HP business inkjet 1100. So goes prerelease testing. I'll boot to 32-bit XP Pro until the x64 drivers I need are available and then try it again. Avast! antivirus appears to work well with Windows XP x64. Thanks for the tip Chris.

Yes, life is easier when you're free from the burden of all those PC applications no longer available to you. :P

I would switch to a Mac, except that I enjoy not having the massive inferiority complex that seems to afflict so many of its users. That, and the turtlenecks. :)

Please email me and I will give you my address to ship your copy of Windows to. If you still have the box, that would be great. I will even pay for shipping. brian@activewin.com
