Thanks for the early info. The download is going faster than any of the other Longhorn/Vista image downloads have in the past.

usual question. Where can one get it?

It's not on the CPP page yet.

Only been released to testers.

Next week they will be putting it out to MSDN subscribers and Technet.

Or so says Jim Alchin, anyway.

5744 [RC2] is a substantive improvement over RC1. It is much faster - quite snappy on the test system, which was upgraded over 5728.

The help system is fleshed out and a number of new, or updated icons are present.
Aero transitions are much faster and smoother.

Driver support is still missing for a media card reader built into the Compaq NX9600 I am using to test this build. The XP driver will load, but media cannot be read. [ 2 GB SD card from Kingston ].

WMDC has been updated - had to remove my old hack to get it to recognize my device, but it also added support for many more devices. WMDC works even better than in 5728 and again, it was flawless in terms of maintaining the settings I had set on my phone - WM5 buld 149.x with the SFP and "Push" enabled w/sync all via E2K3/SP2.

#7, re-run the performance check - it may elevate your system's ratings.
