Richard Charkin is an unrepentant thief. Charkin, a UK executive with publisher Macmillan, attended last week's Book Expo America in New York and decided to make his feelings about Google Book Search clear by teaching Google a lesson: he stole two of the company's laptops.

Very bad analogy. It's not theft, it's infringement. But I see where he's going: it's easier to mock-up theft to prove a point than IP infringement.

All of these big media execs mis-characterize infringement as theft as that will get them more sympathy when they're crying in front of Congress for new laws.

Would Lessig allow Charkin to remove the hard drive from the laptop, copy it, and post all the info on the web if he returned the laptop and drive?

i once met a girl at a bar, and later found out she wasn't wearing any underwear.
