Vista mistakes Microsoft won't repeat with Windows 7
Time: 12:50 EST/17:50 GMT | News Source: All About Microsoft | Posted By: Kenneth van Surksum

Microsoft learned some hard lessons with Windows Vista that it already is applying to Windows 7.

Vista mistakes Microsoft won't repeat with Windows 7First and foremost: Keep Windows architectural changes to a minimum. And secondly, be more predictable (and believable) when it comes to delivery targets.

That’s according to Mike Nash, Corporate Vice President of Windows Product Management, who is chatting this week with press and bloggers about the state of Vista, just about a year after the company released the product to manufacturing.

"..be more predictable (and believable) when it comes to delivery targets." Not going to happen. The best predictor of future behavior is past behavior. MS will again put forth an overly optimistic target date when given a year in advance. We're used to it.

I mean, really. This is nothing more than the pre-alpha speech we hear for every single Windows release.

About 20% (give or take 20%) of it will actually come true if history prevails.

Keep it secure
Keep it simple
Make it speedy
Make it standards compliant

Windows 7 doesn't need to be a tour de force. Similar to win98 being an enhanced win95 and WinXP being an enhanced Win2k. Windows 7 needs to improve upon and clean up Vista.

Windows 7 will be late (duh), and will probably require a quad-core with 4 GB of RAM just to boot. However, it will be standards compliant as defined by Microsoft (you know, where"open" is closed and their standard is one that only they can fully implement.)

Unfortunately, latch is right. There is no reason why Vista shouldn't fly with 1 gig of ram.
