Don’t get too excited about those Vista price cuts
Time: 08:21 EST/13:21 GMT | News Source: ZDNet | Posted By: Robert Stein

Microsoft announced price cuts for Windows Vista on February 28, but only for standalone boxed copies sold at retail. The price cuts are not Vista copies preloaded on new PCs or sold through volume-licensing contracts. Microsoft characterizes retail as “a small fraction of Microsoft’s overall business,” (no exact numbers available from Microsoft), in the words of a compay spokeswoman. And secondly, Microsoft itself is cautioning that some users won’t see any cuts at all starting in late March, when Microsoft begins making its Vista Service Pack (SP) 1 update generally available.

Regretfully the news are not helping MS stocks: -2.47% right now at $27.24. time to buy some shares.

Very happy about this cause I'm one of those insignificant people who buys retail for my home machines :)

Someone knows what it means to be an early adopter. We pay to be testers and then the price drops and someone gets s nice stable product. An early adopter has to love it in order to do it.

Is this not the first price drop in Windows history?

That is pretty telling in itself.

Well considering that it was a whole new pricing structure it is not that surprising that they are changing things around. Most people thought that Ultimate retail was too costly. Really it is probably meaningless for the bottom line as most licenses are sold as OEM copies anyways.
