  Windows Home Server hardware
Time: 08:33 EST/13:33 GMT | News Source: Ed Bott’s Windows Expertise | Posted By: Michael Dragone

Interesting poll results at We Got Served, which asked its visitors to list the hardware they’re using to run Windows Home Server. With 519 responses (only 7 from people saying “none yet, but I want one”), the results show that custom-built servers are most popular among enthusiasts, grabbing about 67% of the market. Of the remaining 33%, HP not surprisingly has the lion’s share, with a total of 123 respondents claiming ownership of a MediaSmart Server. That’s nearly 24% of the total. Impressive.

I've been researching my WHS hardware purchase for a while... I haven't updated these prices/components in about a month, but this is what I'm planning. Virtually all of this stuff is from newegg.com.

Mobo: ASUS P5E-VM DO - $116.00
CPU: Pentium E2160 - $66.00
RAM: Crucial DDR2 PC2-5300 2GB - $48.00
Primary Disk: 1x WD Caviar RE16 500GB - $109.00
Storage Disks: 3x WD Caviar GP 1TB - $471.00
Case: Apex LX-800 - $50.00
Power Supply: Corsair CMPSU-450VX - $66.00
HSF: Scythe Ninja 1100P w/Nexus 120 - $36.00

Total = $962.00

This machine should be nearly silent and will have over 3TB of storage. :)
