With Windows 8, Microsoft's playing a scene from Groundhog Day
Time: 07:34 EST/12:34 GMT | News Source: ZDNet | Posted By: Robert Stein

I swear I can write this post over and over and over again and never run out of new material. Every bit of reporting I've read lately on Windows 8 could just as easily have been written in 2001, at the dawn of the XP era. Like a scene out of Groundhog Day, we now get to read, again, that Microsoft's death spiral has begun because PC sales have slowed down

I have been telling customers how I like Windows 8, show them my laptop with Windows 8 Enterprise, 8-GB RAM and a 120-GB Intel SSD (all for $600). Since Windows 8 came out, the ratio of OS on our new PCs sold is 10 Windows 7 to 1 Windows 8. This is much worse than the XP to Vista ratio six years ago. I hope Microsoft comes out with an official "patch" that lets non-touchscreen uses install a Microsoft start button and SHOW IT ON TV ADS. The unintended consequences of booting all Windows 8 machines to the start screen by default has a lot of people spooked. I'd like to sell my Windows 8 licenses and not have them sitting around much longer. MS may not care as to them the sales were already made.

I spent two days trying to get this running on my home desktop. After replacing swapping out nearly all the hardware, every time I try to logon the keyboard locks up. Mouse still works, but can't type.

I do have it on my laptop, and I think it has some potential but this is a bigger disaster than Vista.
