Microsoft today announced its plans acquire operating system competitor Apple Computer Corp. in a bold move that raises a series of anti trust questions. The proposed all stock purchase will result in Apple becoming a division of the Redmond, Washington software giant and retaining its offices in California. The Apple division, which will be renamed Microsoft User Design Research and Development, will be responsible for designing the user interface for the upcoming Longhorn O/S.
When asked about Apples computer hardware division, Steve Jobs was quoted as saying, "Microsoft will benefit from our long experience in desktop and laptop design. When their new XPC is launched in late 2003 it will be designed by our engineers but the actual manufacturing process will be out sourced to long time Microsoft hardware partner Flextronics." Mr. Jobs further stated, "I am extremely happy to bring our focus on the user experience to Microsoft’s long running standard of excellence in creating stable software platforms."

I was thinking just the opposite. It would be great to have a lot of monopoly power behind the cool OS X.

I had heard the same thing except that Apple Div would be called Research and Design, Raster Usability for Microsoft (RED-RUM).

If Microsoft bought Apple they would get great interface and design skills, which they are poorly lacking.

Great interface and design skill huh? Hmmm....maybe thats the reason why I first tryed "dealing" w/ the new dock for 3 months, got tired of coping and got rid of the damn thing. With windows xp, i use practically everyone one of its new features (the start pane being my fave) and incur no noticeable performance loss.
Not only that though, but I love the luna UI. A lot of people disregard it as a "Fisher Price" UI but I think its very attractive and doesn't interfere w/ the usuability of Windows. Which is more than I can say for my previous X installation ( I say previous because I toasted X and put 9 back on my dual G4 ). If anything, windows is much more usuable (again the start panel ) since the introduction of Luna.
Just my 2 cents...

Woah... Blynk.. get a grip. I wasn't being serious at all about most of that stuff. The only thing I like about Apple is it's hardware design (the look not the technical aspect) and the fact that their floppy drives hae auto insert notification (and autoplay).
Hrm...

I like the Mac OS X interface and OS a lot more than MS. If MS would buy Apple and incorporate their OS X interface and Unix into Windows life would be perfect. OK, I guess this will never happen. I wish all Window products worked without modification of a Mac OS X so I could buy and use it.
