It sounds like you're using Internet Connection Sharing. If so, double check to make sure this is configured correctly. First, are you using a crossover cable to connect your second computer to the first? If not, that may be the cause of the problem. If you're running broadband (DSL or Cable), I'd suggest getting a router to connect both computers to.
