| There is something sinister at work here, and people should complain very bloody loudly at Microsoft for as long as it takes. I too fell for the 'Its a breeze to set up..' senario, only to find that A: it was NOT a breeze and B: The only wind you are likley to feel when setting up is a hurricane of utter disappointment. Begging the question : Do Microsoft belive that everyone who buys their over-rated white elephant, is either proficient in all things network based and have enough disposable income to have wireless everything and superfast top of the pile internet connection, or in fact AOL doesnt exisit?! Iam on sodding AOL silver with a twatty little BT Voyager 190 which pretends to be broadband but in fact is nothing of the sort, and consequently DOES NOT WORK!! Thanks Gates you f..king c..t, thanks for the disappointment, the money wasted and the time spent sitting waiting for your useless Customer Support to answer the fekking phone, only to be redirected to chuffing AOL. And all because I belived the advertising........ What happened to the halcyon days of the Sega Dreamcast...1 lead 1 phone socket and you were away. Quake III online? No problem (apart from a bit of lag) Gates, and all the marketing, research and design bods take note, you have overcomplicated an easy process with coporate ineptitude and, as usual, let us pay the price. That said, does anyone actually know how to use a Netgear Wireless router in conjuction with AOL broadband silver, if so I would be so gratful it cant be imagined : ) |

| I Have A BT Voyager 100 USB Modem and am currently using aol broadband, i have tried ics many times following evrey guide i can find but with no success. I have purchased a Belkin 4-port router and this still has not brought any luck as i fail the DNS test on my connection with the Xbox. Can i use ics? What Router should i Buy? |

Succsess! AOL can go f..k, got a Netgear DG834PN (only difference between that and the G model is the blue neon ariel beacon on the top of the PN).
Well its no suprise to say that it wouldnt work with my AOL silver, no matter how many ways I tried to set it up using the DG834G installation file (available for download from their rubbish tech-support site) or read their out of date original black case xbox set up blurb.
So just before I set fire to my PC, Xbox and new Netgear Router, I phoned Netgear's tech-support helpline (UK: 08701121206) and they not only talked me through the whole process but also setting up the Xbox which, lets face it, has nothing to do with them.
So if you are pulling your hair out through lack of customer support then (if you buy the Netgear DG834PN) give them a bell. It worked for me.
The benefits? Not having to have your PC on the whole time you are online with your xbox, thusly not having it slow down your connection speed which is a welcome thing if you are just scraping Silver (lol)
Hope to see you out there for a blast on Gears of War, although my two sons seem to have hijacked my profile D'oh!

i just got xbox live but i dunt no were to plug it in from my xbox. help i want live!!!!!!!!!!!!!

[/QUOTE] have u found out what router u need [/QUOTE] i have a bt voyager 105 usb modem which doesn,t seem to work. so i contacted aol and told them i wanted to cancel my broadband because i couldn't get xbox live to work. they said if they sent me the wireless router would i stay with them. i told them that i just noticed that i had been paying 17.99 month for silver and they are offering new customers silver for 14.99 month. they said i could chose to options 1- silver for 14.99 month or 2- gold for 19.99 month (gold costs 24.99 month). I finally opted for brand new wireless router (which apparrently is the one i need for live) , gold at 19.99 month and one month free internet. hopefully it will sort my live out. might be worth a try instead of buying a new router. |
