Its not IE6 that's changed (its been around since IE4, but only recently did it change it to the new default on upgrades) its actually a "feature" that conforms to the HTTP spec. HTTP 1.1 mandates a maximum of 2 open connections to one server at any time, while for HTTP 1.0 connections Microsoft limited IE to 4 connections.

You can change this if you want but be aware you will be breaking the HTTP 1.1 spec, but if you are a home user you probably won't care... Here are the registry settings (I wouldn't set them any more than 4):

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings

MaxConnectionsPerServer REG_DWORD (Default 2)
Sets the number of simultaneous requests to a single HTTP 1.1 Server

MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server REG_DWORD (Default 4)
Sets the number of simultaneous requests to a single HTTP 1.0 Server
These settings are made for a particular user and will have no affect on other users who log onto the machine.
