Make private makes you owner of the object in the ACL. All you gotta do is add yourself to the permissions. If you have xp home you're using simple file sharing, so you wont be able to do this. In XP Pro you can disabled this in Tools > folder options > view tab > uncheck the last thing. THen you can add the user u made to the acl.

In XP home you can do this 2 ways. First, go into safe mode, and youll see a permissions tab.

Second, go to start > run > cmd, click ok. Then type cacls /?, and figure it out
