Whenever I double-click on an icon or try to access a program from the start menu, it opens with notepad. I tried restarting the computer, amd upon start-up I had 34 notepad files open on the desktop. I don't know if this is something I did or some kind of virus? PLEASE HELP!

[QUOTE]Originally Posted by Jedi Master: Did you install a program or download something prior to this problem happening I downloaded the update onto a disk at the local library, because I do not have a highspeed connection here at home

Uninstall TurboTax, and also check to see what loads in the startup folder (start/all programs/start up). If there's anything unusual, delete it, Then reboot and let us know what happens. ---------------------------------------------- Work is for people who don't know how to surf Gateway Performance 1800 - P4 1.8gz, 1gig RAM, nVidia 5200; SB Live Value; Windows Vista Business, Photoshop CS2, Nikon D200 and D100

If there's anything unusual, delete it, Then reboot and let us know what happens. OK, First off, the only way I can access any program is to right-click on it, and select "Run As..", except for IE, it works fine. I uninstalled all of TurboTax, except for TurboTax ItsDeductible. This does not have an uninstall option, and I cannot access the Add/Remove Programs no matter what I do. The following is a list of the programs in the Startup Folder: Adobe Reader Speed Launch America Online 9.0 tray icon Desk top Application Director 9 HP digital imaging monitor HPAiODevice (HP Officejet 7100 series) -1 Microsoft Office PowerReg Scheduler V3.exe Quickbooks Update Agent Quicken Scheduled Updates Spamsubtract I'm not sure what all the programs on the start menu are for, and I can't use the add/remove programs to delete any of them. Deleting TurboTax and rebooting made no difference.

OK...this has me stumped. There's a freeware program called Advanced Windows Care which can sometimes deal with weird stuff like this. It goes through your system and can fix a lot of problems. It sounds like something got goofed up when you tried to update TurboTax. Download it from here and run it to see what it can find and fix. Hopefully this will do the trick. http://iobit.com/AdvancedWindowsCarePersonal/index.html ---------------------------------------------- Work is for people who don't know how to surf Gateway Performance 1800 - P4 1.8gz, 1gig RAM, nVidia 5200; SB Live Value; Windows Vista Business, Photoshop CS2, Nikon D200 and D100
