Im curious, who made the dvd-rom? If you go to microsoft.com/hcl and search on it, is it listed as compatible for xp?

What about safe mode with networking, does this reproduce?

Do you have any 3rd party cd/dvd burning software? If so uninstall it.

Anything in event viewer when this happens?

Is this a laptop?

Does device manager show up ok?

In My computer, does the dvd-rom show up as a dvd?

Do you have the most current firmware for the device?

Has this ever worked, never worked?
