Anything can cause this. If you want a magic bullet not troubleshooting this is the wrong place, there is no magic bullet for troubleshooting networking. I need more info.

Are you on a domain? WHy are you using win2k advanced server on a workgroup???

Are the computers on the same workgroup? Is there a router or hub? How are they setup? Are they all using tcp/ip for the protocol or what? Is there any software firewalls? What errors do you get?

It sounds like you might need to enable netbios on the xp machine:
