Hi,
I'm not too good with laptops. My daughter has a problem with the fan. Her laptop will connect no problem to the internet. Then, after about 15 minutes, it gets really hot and shuts down.
I was going to work on fixing (trying to fix it) just last week but, too much going on (a big move)
Anyway, I don't know if I should just have her take it in for service or this may be something I can help her fix. I'm in MA and she is in N.Y. so......
I know it's loaded with dust. If it were anything but a laptop I'd have her open it up and clean it. I don't know how with this thing though.
Thanks in advance for any advice. I really want to just have her take it in for repair but, her birthday is coming up and she's getting a brand new one. So, I'm trying to get this to work until September...........

It definitely needs to go in for service. She should have no problem finding a reputable repair place in NY. Laptops are very delicate and should only be serviced by a reputable repair firm.
Per my prior post, on the new laptop, I'd strongly recommend against Sony. Take a look at HP, Toshiba and Gateway. All are well built. Additionally, if you order one direct from Dell or Gateway, you can get it customized to her needs (i.e. larger hard drive, more RAM, Office 2007, etc)

Work is for people who don't know how to surf
Gateway Performance 700C - P4 1.8gz, 1gig RAM, nVidia 5200; SB Audigy SE; Windows Vista Business, Photoshop CS2, Nikon D200 and D100

Thanks AGAIN Jedi : )
Yeah I went to see my mom yesterday (of course)
she lives with her boyfriend. He had this shiny, new looking laptop sitting there and
I was asking about it and my mother told me he had just got it back from being repaired.
He is an expert with computers but, still had to bring it in. It's a Dell.
I've had good experience with those and that's probably why I favor them.
The Sony is just something my daughter really wanted.
All fancy
rings and bells
Thanks again for the advice.
I'll talk to a cousin of mine who lives in N.Y.C. and ask him where to direct her.
Or, I'll just bring her out a tower and she can forget a laptop. Actually, that's a good idea
she is finishing up school as of this week with her finals and could get by without one
then would appreciate it more for a present!
Well, glad that got solved!
Thanks again!
: )
