OK guys, I'm at a loss to explain this.. background: Static IP, 1 domain, 1 subnet, 2003SP2servers, XPSP2clients, 10/100/1000switches at each branch(intel & Netgear). Fibre is via Western Power(WP) network.. 4 sites for our scenario are pool,WP,admin & library. setup like this.. transaction made on a laptop @ pool goes.. fibre-WP... fibre-admin.. fibre-WP... fibre-library and same path to return to laptop... Application and DB lives on library server, app client is on laptop. transaction takes 207 seconds to complete!!! if I take the laptop to the library, takes 2 seconds to complete.. 100 seconds if taken to admin and run. if I disconnect all branch switches/servers.. laptop directly into fibre@pool and lib server into fibre@library and a simple 5port switch connecting both fibre lines @admin.. takes 2 seconds!! so it can work!!.. getting 35MB/s throughput over fibre on all lines so not the issue. What's the difference if the laptop is @ pool or Library? it shouldn't even know! same IP address remember!, same client, same transaction.. just different RJ45 connector!!!! It has to be something to do with routing? or timeouts due to latency? How can dumb non-managed network switches cause this. have swapped them all in stages, same result. How can I narrow down what's going wrong, at my wit's end.. any perls of wisdom out there.. PS: WP use ONU's (transparent routers)to terminate the fibre into rj45 ethernet.. They swear it can't be anything on their gear as it is at a different layer and transparent to traffic content..... would be inclined to agree given my testing and results so far.. any help please APJ
