My first question is: why not install xp pro? XP home cannot join a domain, but xp pro can. Does your company allow xp pro? If so upgrade to it, you can get a xp pro upgrade cd for $199, which you company should pay for since it's business related.

Before upgrading make sure you backup any critical data. Also, there's a very good chance you'll need a bios update. What i would do is copy the i386 folder from the xp pro cd to the hard drive (drive c), restart to safe mode, go to start > run > type: c:\i386\winnt32.exe

Should be smooth sailing.
