Hi and thanks for the anticipated help. I have a home network (LAN) with 5 computers hardwired. I just rebuilt two of the computers and installed Windows Vista. The other three computers have Windows XP Pro installed. The XP computers are using NetBeui protocol on the LAN. I can share and see the three computers using XP, but not the two Vista computers. Is there a way to add NetBeui to the Vista computers? Or is there a way to communicate to the Vista computers as is. I know you will ask, I had added NetBeui to XP computers as a safety feature as I did unbind NetBeui from Tcp/ip. From what I understand it is faster and safer. Thanks

There are couple of things to be aware of with Vista. First, when Vista is first installed, it assumes that your computer is on a public network. Go to Control Panel/Network and Internet/Network Sharing Center, and change the network from Public to Private. That will allow other computers on your LAN to "see" it. Note that you'll have to enable sharing of any particular folders and such. [side note - this feature of Vista is very good, especially with laptops. If you're using a laptop at a wifi hotspot, switching the network to Public essentially hides you from the rest of that open network] Next, Vista does not support Netbeui. The default protocol is TCP/IP> ---------------------------------------------- Work is for people who don't know how to surf Gateway Performance 700C - P4 1.8gz, 1gig RAM, ATi Radeon 9550; SB Audigy SE; Windows Vista Business, Photoshop CS3, Nikon D200
