I am in dire need of help. Here is the situation. My desktop says I have the virtumonde virus. Now, I have looked on probably every blog in existence. Here is what is going on: 1. I CANNOT DOWNLOAD ANY PROGRAMS FROM THE INTERNET. Every time I do, it lets me save it, but when I run it, it says ..."is not a valid Win32 application." I know probably it downloads as a corrupted file. I cannot download any virus or spyware/malware busters and I cannot get updates on my existing Spybot account. 2. I cannot get to microsoft.com or many websites that would be helpful for me in troubleshooting this issue. They are either blocked now or I get redirected. This, of course, includes windows update and such. I get redirected to various websites including go.google.com. 3. The functionality of my machine is basically compromised. I feel like I can't do anything. What I have tried so far is searching for virtumonde-related .exe and .dll files. I have none of the ones people say. I dont know where in the registry to search for more stuff. Its pretty obvious to me that a first fix would be to enable myself to download programs that are uncorrupted, then I could bust the virus. Please help me do this. Its killing me. email me at benlevy22@gmail.com with thoughts

First question - which antivirus are you using? If none, you may be looking at doing a total reformat and reinstall of everything. ---------------------------------------------- Work is for people who don't know how to surf Gateway 15.4" Laptop, Windows Vista Ultimate/Server 2008, Photoshop CS3, Nikon D200

I'm using Threat Fire, I have ZoneAlarm firewall. neither of these things are doing anything.

Not knowing the specific virus, it sounds like damage has been done to the OS. Best recommendation is to do a clean install. Also, I'd suggest using somethin like Kaspersky over ThreatFire. Also, based on reports from others, ditch ZoneAlarm. I've seen several reports of it doing more damage than good. ---------------------------------------------- Work is for people who don't know how to surf Gateway 15.4" Laptop, Windows Vista Ultimate/Server 2008, Photoshop CS3, Nikon D200
