I am using Windows Vista. I have dowloaded a file and I cannot delete it now. The message I recieve is "The action can't be completed because the file is open in another program". I don't know how this can be the case as it is not open anywhere else...??

First, what type of file did you download and from where? Also, what antivirus are you running (i.e. concern this is a virus). Next, reboot and go into safe mode and delete it that way. ---------------------------------------------- Work is for people who don't know how to surf Gateway 15.4" Laptop, Windows Vista Ultimate/Server 2008, Photoshop CS3, Nikon D200

I tried the ctrl and delete button trick but that didn't work. It keeps saying that the file it was in no longer exist and would i like to try again. Probably the best way is to boot into Safe Mode (reboot the computer and press F8 before the Starting Windows logo appears). From there, you can go into Windows Explorer and delete the files. As with the prior post, what antivirus are you running? Also, is this on a home computer or work computer? If it's a work computer, there may be some restrictions about deleting files/documents. ---------------------------------------------- Work is for people who don't know how to surf Gateway 15.4" Laptop, Windows Vista Ultimate/Server 2008, Photoshop CS3, Nikon D200

These pictures can only be found when I go into start, search, and then type in the word "pictures" Sometimes I can delete one picture but when I try the next one I get that message. ---------------------------------------------- Tati

hmmmm...not sure if this will help, but.... Windows Explorer organizes files a little differently than WinXP/Win2000 did. There are now separate folders for Documents, Pictures, Music, and Videos (under WinXP/Win2000, the My Documents folder held everything). You can use Windows Explorer (Start/All Programs/Accessories) or Windows Photo Gallery (Start/AllPrograms) to get to your photos. Second, did someone set this computer up for you? Did they apply certain "rights" as far as deleting files and such? ---------------------------------------------- Work is for people who don't know how to surf Gateway 15.4" Laptop, Windows Vista Ultimate/Server 2008, Photoshop CS3, Nikon D200
