Hi! Need some advice. First I will explain my current setup. I have 2 IP's provided on my Internet connection. One of these must remain isolated, the other can be shared. I have a server (more a file repository and several printer shares on it (1 Ink Jet, 1 Color Laser, 1 Mono Laser). We do use this machine via XAMPP (a quick install of Apache Server, PHP etc) which we do some web development work on. That "Server" has a static IP on our LAN of 192.168.2.100 and it need be accessible by all machines on the LAN (currently 3) but now looking at 5. So... Currently I have the cable modem attached to a 8 port switch. Computer #A (Athlon 64XP) connects to that switch, thus it picks its IP up from there (software firewall). Then I have a cable that goes over to the WAN input of a Netgear Router. PC's #B (My wifes), and PC #C (kids) connect to the router. So "Internet wise" we're good [emote|:)] So thus that makes 3 ports taken on the router. Unto the Server... A cable runs from the server to the router, router configured on that port for 192.168.2.100, NIC in the server same. Now PC #B & #C (wife and kids) can save files there, access printers... However PC #A cannot, which doesnt make sense to me since a cable runs from the switch to the WAN connect on the router. So... Computer #A (athlon 64XP) got a second land card into it, cabled over to the router. Wella, now all machines can access the server at 192.168.2.100. However... now our 5 port router is filled, no ports left. Enter.... Two more PC's... One is to be running Tomcat (for Java development), the other will be running Linux, machines #E and #F. Neither needs access the Internet nor does the existing "server" BUT the three machines with Internet access DO need to be able to access the server in place as well as the new #E and #F machines (and these machines access each other). Again, have a 5 port router and 8 port switch so this all ought be doable yes? BUT AGAIN, with the two internet IP addresses these must remain seperate... --------------------------------------------- My brain is saying I need another router. In other words: Cable Modem goes to 8 port switch. Two cables from switch go to each router. Router #A gets connected to PC #A (Athlon 64XP) thus it has its own IP? PC's #B & C get connected to Router #B, thus they have their own IP? Then the existing server, Tomcat machine, Linux machine all get a connect to the switch? And? Do I need run a cable bridging the two routers since the lines from the switch to the routers would go to the routers WAN ports? Would this configuration work? ie: Machine #A (Athlon XP) has its own IP, Machine #B & #C (wife and kids) have their own internet IP, The other 3 machines (server, Tomcat machine, Linux machine) all can be accessed by the afore noted 3 machines as well as each other? What a lump of spaghetti! I look forward to hearing from a networking guru! ~Me~'
