Is laptop 1 running Vista or XP? If it's Vista, there's an extra step. The first step is to go into the Printers folder, right click on the icon for the printer, and choose Sharing, and enable sharing. If laptop 1 is running Vista, go into Network and Sharing Center and first make sure that the network is set to Private. Then, disable the requirement for a password for file and print sharing. Also, make sure that ALL of the other Vista laptops are set to Private under Network and Sharing Center. ---------------------------------------------- Work is for people who don't know how to surf Gateway 15.4" Laptop, Windows Vista Ultimate/Server 2008, Photoshop CS3, Nikon D200

laptop 1 is XP.. anyways, thing is, laptop 1 is only connected to a wired network [lets assume this network is called ONE] and laptops 2,3 and 4 are connected only to the wireless network [assume its called TWO] The only physical or otherwise link between networks ONE and TWO is the ADSL router. But as it stands, the two networks dont "talk" to each other, so if i put printer sharing on in laptop 1, the printer will be shared on network ONE, but i need laptops from network TWO to be able to use the printer.. If all else fails, is it possible for the other laptops to use laptop 1's printer through the internet?

Guess I'm confused as to why you're using both a wired router and wireless. Most wireless routers include 2-4 wired ethernet ports. At my home, AT&T provided a 2WIRE DSL router/modem. All computers (three laptops) connect wirelessly to it. I can connect my laptop direct to it thru one of the ports, if need be. What model is this ADSL router? ---------------------------------------------- Work is for people who don't know how to surf Gateway 15.4" Laptop, Windows Vista Ultimate/Server 2008, Photoshop CS3, Nikon D200

you got me wrong there, i DO use only 1 router, 3 laptops connect to it wirelessly, and one of them connects though the ethernet port. The wireless network is the access point called "joey". the thing is, technically laptop 1 is not connected to "joey" because it doesnt have wireless capabilites, so how do i get it to communicate with the wireless network, saying "i have a printer connected to me, use it!" do i have my concepts mucked up?

OK...think I got it. One router name "joey" with one laptop directly connected via ethernet cable, and 3 laptops that connect to it wirelessly. This is a simple "peer to peer" network, sometimes referred to as a "workgroup". The key is making sure that the name of the workgroup is the same for all computers. On the XP machine, go to Start/Control Panel/Performance and Maintenence/System and click on the Computer Name tab. Check to see what the Workgroup name is (Microsoft defaults it to "Workgroup"). You can change it to whatever you want. While you're in Control Panel, go to Printers and make sure that the printer that's connected to this laptop is shared. Next, go to each Vista laptop and make sure that the Workgroup name is the same as on the XP machine. Then, go to Printers and chose to add a printer. You'll want to select network printer as the printer you want is connected to the XP machine on your peer to peer network. Vista will find the printer and probably install the drivers automatically for it. Trust this clears things up. ---------------------------------------------- Work is for people who don't know how to surf Gateway 15.4" Laptop, Windows Vista Ultimate/Server 2008, Photoshop CS3, Nikon D200
