I've read the other threads on this sort of problem, I've downloaded the suggested utilities and none of them have worked.
I wish I could attach a 'screen grab' to show you the file name.
The file name consists of three characters, the 1st appears to be a capital R with a 'squiggle' beneath it, the 2nd appears to be a square box type character, the 3rd is the letter 't'.
The file has no extension, it's size is 0 bytes, and it occupies 0 bytes on my hard disk.
When I try Killbox on it, the log says the file 'does not seem to exist'
This file is causing me no problems at all, it's just annoying me that I cannot get rid of it!
I should add that the file 'appears to exist' on an NTFS file system under Windows XP Home edition, all MS updates in place.
Your advice would be appreciated!

Have you tried going into Safe Mode and deleting it from there?

Thanks guys, tried that no good I'm afraid.
I had placed the file in a folder called 'Junkfile', but something, I suspect the last program/utility that I tried, Killbox?, has changed the folder name to 'phqghume9ayl' for some reason.
In Safe Mode, at the dos prompt I CD'd to this folder and did a DIR, showing the file, but the square box character appeared as a box with a face in it?
When I did a 'del .' dos advised that 'the filename, directory name, or volume label syntax was incorrect'
Any more ideas?
Thanks
Chris

scan the computer with the anti malware bytes.
run this anti malware from the safe mode.
before scanning the compute create a restore point.
take the back up of the registry.
delete all the detected files from the computer.
run the disk clean up from the start>programs>accessories>system tools>disk clean up.
run the disk defragment from the start> programs>accessories>system tools>disk defragment. run the disk defragment in safe mode only.

Thanks lohan12,
I've done all that, log below.
Scanned, disk cleaned and defragged in safe mode. Nothing found or to be deleted.
File still there, and still cannot be deleted.
I would advise that I run Advanced System Care, keeping my system clean and in top condition.
Seeing that this file is not causing any problems, I'm now tempted to just ignore it!
Thanks again,
Chris
