deleting xp and java updates

i have noticed in my add/remove programs that there are a lot of updates for java and windows. can i remove the older updates? especially the java ones as they are about 100 to 150 meg each!! will this harm my system? please help. im running xp home sp2/sp3.thanks.

The newer java updates overwrite the older ones. You can unstall the older ones, but you may wind up having to reinstall the latest. As to the Windows updates, leave them be.
