Yes, it is true windows xp does not have any dos at all in it. However it has what's called a dos Virtual Machine. The idea is you run each dos program in it's own reserved memory space and fool it so it thinks it's running in dos.

So you can run some dos apps in windows xp. Some dos apps just won't work because xp has a different architecture than win9x. Programs that need to directly write to the hardware for example won't work under windows xp.

If you really have to use an older dos app, then dual boot xp and win9x.
