Looks like MSI 2.0 will ship with Windows 2000 SP3 after all. This was posted by a Microsoft official in the Windows 2000 SP3 newsgroup:
Windows Service Packs are ever evolving to support the needs of our
customers and provide a positive experience. MSI 2.0 is a benefit to our
customers and it will be included in Windows 2000 Service Pack 3 when it
releases this summer.

So do you feel like an idiot, IronCladLou, for dismissing out of hand PT's firmly stated confirmation simply because it has a negative aspect towards MS without any evidence of your own, or do you relish being a blinded softy?

soda, there was no logic whatsoever to Lou's supposition. (What, am I supposed to think that Paul Thurrott was unaware that MSI 2.0 was already available? You'd have to be a moron to believe that fact itself forms an argument for suggesting that because MSI 2.0 is in the wild that it can't have bugs and those bugs can't effect a service pack and those effects can't push back the release.) He tried to make this illogic into an argument even though he had no information whatsoever, and despite the fact that PT mentioned he knows this because of INTERNAL MS documents, and we all know everything PT gets is from directly within the Redmond walls. Baaa. Baaaa. Baaaaaa.

Doesn't this prove that my evaluation was even more correct, Sodajerk?
I'm supposed to believe Paul Thurrott, and think that Microsoft would delay a service pack because of code that's about a year old? That Paul's never wrong? Or, that Paul's never been duped by someone else's bullshit???
HA! You must be more stupid than I thought...
For the record, I wasn't implying that the code is bug free, or simply dismissing the claim because it was negative press. Knowing what I know about Microsoft, Installer, and computer science in general, I simple believe that this particaular claim is a fabrication.
I don't have 920+ posts, I don't give my OPINION every time something touches a nerve...

Lou, My point is you have no basis for making your claim. Do I think PT is always right? No. But when he says, breaking news from internal MS documents (and conjectures that the SP will either NOT incldue the installer or be delayed because of it) and the same day MS confirms that the SP will contain the installer... I think it's obvious that this is true.
Since it's true, I don't see how your supposition can be more correct... it gets more and more absolutely wrong the longer you stand by it.

I'm not going to discuss this with you, because it's obvious you're a complete moron.
I know that I'm right, you're wrong, and Paul's full of shit. And, I don't give a rat's ass what you think...

SodaJerk, The obvious thing would be that MS put a press release out because of people thinking SP3 would be delayed even more. Maybe they read PT's comments or even yours and said to themselves, well I will show that moron SodaJerk, let's release that MSI 2.0 will be in SP3. This is all just my opinion so I need not show any proof whatsoever of what I said, I just get sick of your BS Soda.

Lou, mctwin, keep living in a dream world. The PR is exactly what you would expect from microsoft if they have been soliciting feedback. Now, we have the answer--they will hold SP3 so that MSI 2 will be able to be included. If you don't buy it, fine. But, what, the RC was ready two months ago, right? Let's see how long it takes for its release.
"I know that I'm right, you're wrong, and Paul's full of shit." I'll remember that Lou.
