We have posted 15 exclusive photos and three screenshots of Microsoft's upcoming Broadband Networking line. Some of the new products include: Ethernet 5 port Switch, PCI Adapter, Notebook Adapter, USB Adapter, Wireless Notebook Adapter and of course the Wireless USB Adapter. Each comes with Microsoft Broadband Networking software where the user can view network status, configure settings, and download updates. |

Of course there's still the software side of things. Probably will provide more integration than other products and make better use of UPnP.
---Beat me to it, Todd :-) Does anyone know if the wireless products will make use of MS' wireless spec (supposed to lower the cost of the hardware by letting the CPU replace some onboard logic) ? This post was edited by n4cer on Monday, September 16, 2002 at 01:44. |

Seems pretty cool, but the wires? I thought this would be wireless. I know it is USB, but I would not clutter my desktop with all those USB cables! I just woke up over here in Budapest so forgive me if I made any comments that pisses off people.

Honestly, I don't see the point of this. They should have just worked with a couple of the other vendors building home networking products to improve the software configuration options.

| I'm beta testing the wireless router and the wireless network card. It worked as expected (just as good as the competition). Previously, I had been using a Linksys router, and loved it. The microsoft wireless router is a nice, compact unit... definitely on par with my Linksys unit (except microsoft's unit is much smaller). The best part of the product, as you might guess, is the software. The setup was super clean and easy. I'm hoping the price point will be right. |

What I would really like to see and one thing that my help drive Broadband, is good VoIP services. Imagine a WIFI phone, one that isn't tied to the central area of your computer but can be used anywhere in range from you WIFI unit. Using VoIP you can save on Long distance. and with new providers offering Local phone connection for VoIP, it could replace the POTS connection. why Pay 40 plus for broad band plus another 20 or so for a local phone line and 40 or so for cell etc. the best solution of course would be for the Local service on the cell phone in the home be wifi and when you leave that region that it can transfer to GSM or cdma. but that is a wish:) El |
