Yesterday Dell made the announcement that they will be producing a cut price $199 Pocket PC based PDA. Although the full specs have yet to be released for the hand held, most Pocket PC based PDA’s cost far more than the $199 that Dell will be selling them for, and are usually out of reach price-wise for most of us. |

I certainly have high hopes for XScale even if I haven't seen it in action yet. I am pleased the price has dropped as I know a few people who want to get one, I am just one of those who won't touch another one until it drops again!.
As for the grammar problem, I'd be happy to hear from anyone who wouldn't mind checking our articles for grammar, spelling and other errors as I did do a very quick proof read while I was on my lunch break from work but clearly didn't do a good job. |

Unfortunately, XScale isn't panning out to be a big deal. Tests are showing a 6-8% improvement in performance and that's about it. I'm not sure the XScale was a performance move. I think it was more like a cost move. TL |

| I'd like to see what the specs are on the pocket pc. I've always wanted one, but they have been way too expensive. I'm happy with my Palm m130 though(bought it on ebay unopened for $180). |

TechLarry ...XScale will be utilized when MS updates their OS for the device, but from what I've learned, the next update still won't utilized the XScale. Intel ...a few months ago ...has informed all the software developers to utilized the speed of the processor because of that matter.
It is the same for the Palm's move to the Strong Arm processor; the device has a fast processor that is not being utilized by the OS. As for the device ...$199 for 300 Mhz, probably 32 MB of RAM / $299 for 400 Mhz, 64 MB of RAM, I'll opt for the one that has more RAM because, as we all know, having more RAM is better, and it is the same way with the Pocket PC Devices. #16 ...Dell isn't buying these devices in Asia, but they're being manufactured for Dell by a company in Taiwan named Winstron, the company that won the contract from Dell.
In fact there were two other manufacturers that were in the biding for the contract, and one of them was HTC (manufacturer of the iPaq, XDA/T-Mobile/Seimen SX56). Both company bowed out because they didn't believe that cost of the device ($199 & $299) will cover for the manufacturing and parts. By the way ...the device was romured to be called Cartera (the Spanish word for portfolio) or the Clemente (likely its code-name). |
