Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 Beta Program
Time: 11:03 EST/16:03 GMT | News Source: E-Mail | Posted By: Byron Hinson

Thanks Mr Anon A. Mous who let us know that on the premier.microsoft.com website they have started to accept nominations for the Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 beta program.

We are now accepting nominations for the Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 Beta Program. The goal of this program is to have a well-targeted group of testers who will actively participate and provide useful feedback for our development team throughout the SP4 beta program. If you answer YES to any of the questions below:

Would you like to make your feedback visible in SP4?
Would you like to help Microsoft improve the final SP4 product?

Then contact your TAM to let him/her nominate you to be part of the Windows 2000 SP4 Beta Program.

Good question. I believe TAM stands for Technical Account Manager.

It's sort of like a post-sales technical support position.

#6, I think #5 does grasp the concept, and I think the question is legitimate. Although we do not know when SP4 will be released, it would appear that the turn around time will be shorter than average for Win2k.

I would be willing to guess that the new service pack will have a few extra pieces to help Win2k interact with .NET Servers. (Someone mentioned this earlier on the ActiveWin comments section, so I do not want to claim credit.)

Only high risk fixes are posted on Windows Update, others are available via q article, others aren't released public but only for premier members or when you call support.

Win2k sp3 was delayed a lot because of the courts and the security review, it's not suprising they already have a lot of sp4 updates available.

Why is the SP-3 list (/win2000/) still marked as "- preliminary"?

Also, where is a comprehensive list of the descriptions for fixes listed by Bink #9 up there?

#11: Here is the most up-to-date list: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q320853

It's marked preliminary because we haven't updated it yet. These aren't our full time jobs, FYI. If you would like a comprehensive list of the descriptions in SP4 I suggest you write each one in a list then search for the KB # for each one. That will take many hours, as that SP 3 one did, but then again you'll be getting your list...........

#3 SP3 did not include Internet Explorer 6 SP1 but was included in XP SP1.
