Dell, HP agree to ship Java on Windows, Linux PCs | |

HP and Dell Computer will be shipping the latest version of Java with their PCs and laptops running Windows and Linux, said Rich Green, vice president of developer platforms at Sun Microsystems. The vendors join Apple in agreeing to provide native Java support on computers that will allow users to run Java applications using Microsoft Windows XP, Green said Wednesday. Red Hat and Lindows.com also support Java in their distributions. |

And still no one will use it.
Simply having Java on desktops will not make Java popular. People will download it if they have to to run their favorite apps. The problem is, no one is writing apps for Java. |

There will never be Java on my computer
Guess any further purchases will come from other vendors. And I dont care if the the one from Delll and HP comes with an install |

This is fine. Sun went to Dell and HP and negotiated the installation of their software as part of their selling of PCs.
I have no problem with that, it's capitalism. It's like including a coupon for Mcdonalds fries with every futon you sell. At least it's not court ordered nonsense. |
