What are Dell’s plans regarding the recently announced Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition?
"Dell will deploy Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition in future Axim products. We have no plans at this time to offer Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition updates for current Axim X3 or Axim X5 products."
Looks like Dell won't be offering existing users of their Axim X3 or X5 Pocket PC's free upgrades to the bug fixing and improved Windows Mobile 2003 Second edition (Not even an option to buy it either from the looks of it. So if you are looking at buying any Pocket PC's from Dell right now - don't! Shame as both Hewlett Packard and Toshiba are offering updates from April/May. The stranger thing is that at the current MDC show they (Dell, Toshiba and HP) are flashing Pocket PC's to the new OS after users sign an NDA.

A further example of what happens when hardware manufacturers are the ones in charge of distributing software! This is the reason why I will not buy a Media Center PC until the OS will be available in retail stores and I cancelled the order for a second Toshiba Tablet.

<pop forehead> I could've had an iPAQ!
After dealing with unsupportive Pocket PC manufacturers, I finally bought a HP iPAQ h2215. Never considered a Dell Axim. An HP person mentioned off the record that the Second Edition will be available for h2215, h4155, h4355, h5155, and h5555 models.

Maybe Dell needs to send them back to China to get the upgrade installed.

#9: Palm's doing well. I can understand how you would miss things that are not MS. (What?!? There's life after MS?!? Heretic!)

#10 - "Palm's doing well". Really? Seems to me they have lost 20 or so market share points (1/3 of their market share) in the last couple of years.
Thats an odd definition of "well".

"Hey Tom, how do you feel"
"I feel WELL"
"Really, cause I noticed you've lost a leg, a hand, and ear, and most of your teeth"
"But at least I'm alive"

Palm's market share was still over 1/3 before the Handspring acquisition last year. If you include Handspring and Sony, the market share is over 50%. Considering the trend towards non-PDA devices, I would consider this "well". Your Tom analogy is ridiculous, people aren't well without body parts. Palm, by acquiring, Handspring is gaining. The spin-off of the OS group was a good idea too.
I consider 140% growth in stock value over the last year "well". Don't you?
---
"Hey Tom, how's your MSFT stock?"
"Stagnant over the last year"
"Really, cause my PLMO, PSRC is up over 140%!"

I thought I mentioned TWO YEARS as my timeframe, but thats ok. I'll use YOUR TIMEFRAME of ONE YEAR...
"Really, cause my PSRC is up over 140%!"
Interesting, because when I look up PSRC the stock, I see that it is down a full 50% since it began trading. Exactly how does "up over 140%" equate to "down 50%". Did you think I wouldn't check the FACTS?
PSRC 1-year chart

And PLMO (down 75% over the past 2 years) gained 80% in the past year.
How does +80% and -50% equate to your +140%?

Next time you post, you might want to do a minute or two of research.
----------
And as for your grouping SONY with PALMs market share, I don't follow. I'm not lumping HP in with Dell.
No matter how you spin it, Palm isn't doing WELL. Their market share is declining even while the products they sell are selling at lower and lower price points. Normally, a low price would equate to HIGHER market share.

#13: "Next time you post, you might want to do a minute or two of research."
In October of last year, Palm split apart to form palmOne and PalmSource. PalmOne is the hardware side of the business, while PalmSource is the OS side.
Example: 100 shares of Palm stock acquired a year ago at $10.00/share would have cost you $1000.00. The split of PALMD into PLMO and PSRC would give you 100 shares of PLMO and 30 shares of PSRC. As of EOD 03/27/2004, your portfolio would be valued at $2390.00--a 140% increase. If you sold the PSRC right after the split, you would have made even more.

(MSFT over the same one year period is flat.)
Generally, technology stock investments from two or more years ago are not performing well today. Even MSFT would be down about 20%. The fools that drove the dot com boom have lost most of their money and now the reasonable investors can appreciate modest gains by investing in good companies.
#13: "And as for your grouping SONY with PALMs market share, I don't follow. I'm not lumping HP in with Dell."
Ok. Compare Palm market share by brand than, Palm has 1/3 of the market. More than twice any other brand.
#13: "No matter how you spin it, Palm isn't doing WELL."
No spin here, just a well performing investment.
